A craft I never tried – art every day
For this summer I decided to try something new craftwise. I follow Elise Blaha Cripe on instagram (@elisejoy) and she does this challenges, a hundred days of a craft. She just finished a hundred days of making fabric squares with plant motives,#100plantsonfabric. They are now turned into a beatiful quilt. In a blogpost she showed an older challenge where she made small paper cards, one every day. That really inspired me.
A craft challenge
I decided to try something I haven´t tried before. I will make 62 old business cards into small art pieces. Both sides as someone on instagram, pointed out, makes 124. Phew… This is my contribution to Monthly makers July theme.
Since summer means holiday and travels, I decided to limit my supplies to be able to bring the project with me without too much hassle.
I started with painting and collaging the text side of the business card. This I did in my studio. I used decoupage glue, acrylics, paintings my daughter and I made and old magazines.
Then I packed a small bag with sharpies, white gel pen, black permanent markers in different sizes, water brush and a travel pan of water colours.
I´m now half the way into this challenge and this is what I discovered:
- It feels great to have a project that forces you to try lot of different techniques and ideas that I´m curious to try.
- Doing it for the process! I’m just painting and drawing what comes to mind. Some turns out great, some don’t.
- Despite the small format, it takes time to make a card.
- I´m really useless at doing one a day. I usually make a few when I´m at it. But I´ve decieded to be kind to myself and say that it is okey to do that. As long as I continue and finish the project.
Here is a small film of the first 12 cards:
This project will go on for all of August. I´ll post more about it here and on Instagram.
Have you tried any craft challenges? How did it turn out? Did you like it?
Please share in the comments. I would love to see what you do.
